- Taiwan's Kinpo Group entered into an agreement on November 23 with China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) through its 3G mobile subsidiary Vibo Telecom, the Chinese Business News reported on November 24. Pursuant to the agreement, they will collaborate to establish a TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) commercial trial network in Neihu Technology Park. The investment is valued at NT$50 million (US$1.55 million; US$1 = NT$32.30), according to the same source. In addition, the network will provide TD-SCDMA testing services for Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturers to accelerate their products' entry into the Chinese mainland market.

 

- The MIIT announced on November 25 that according to statistics in October from China's three leading mobile operators, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom, the number of 3G mobile phone users subscribing to China's TD-SCDMA, WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), and CDMA services hit seven million as of the end of September 2009, the People's Daily Online reported on November 27. As of the end of September, 2009, China Mobile had 2.31 million TD-SCDMA users, China Unicom had 1.02 million WCDMA users, and China Telecom had 3.67 million CDMA users. Of the total 3G networks built in China, China Telecom's networks have covered 324 cities, China Mobile 238 cities, and China Unicom 238 cities, according again to the same source.
